Microsoft Windows XP is a computer operating system popular in 2010 that has many services and processes that run by default when the computer starts. These default services can be useful, but they can also use up system resources. Turning off Windows XP services that you do not use can potentially increase performance. One such service is the Help and Support service, which allows the Help and Support Center to run. Advanced users who do not need help and support with their computer or plan to find help and support online may wish to disable this service.
Instructions
Click "Start," right click "My Computer" and then click "Manage."
Click the plus (+) sign next to "Services and Applications," then click on "Services" and click the "Standard" tab.
Scroll through the list of services and locate "Help and Support."
Double click on "Help and Support," and where it says "Startup Type" change the dropdown field to "Disabled." Click "Apply," and then click "Ok."
